Urban landscapes have serious impacts on water quality through the disruption of hydrologic cycle. The Purdue University course, Environmental and Ecological Engineering 49500: Water Projects, seeks to use student-led service-learning projects improve both quantity in Wabash River water-shed. This year, students investigated implemented strategies guarantee that previous implementations succeed well into future. Two students, Victoria Chillscyzn Madeline McIntosh, were part a team working with local nonprofit Home Hope. Through interviews, survey, site visits, determined action items form function installations. A grant was submitted accepted Student Service-Learning Grant Program for Community Service/Service-Learning Projects fund an additional rain barrel edible garden at nonprofit. Additionally, educational materials maintenance schedule created bolster care site. course gave authors ability give back community meaningful relevant way.
